Label Traxx leads to pharmaceutical certification

7 April 2008

CV Labels, in Irvine, Scotland, has attained PS9000 certification for the production of medical and pharmaceutical labels. The company is believed to be the only label manufacturer in Scotland to achieve the standard, which addresses the fact that a significant proportion of safety recalls of medicines are attributable to faulty packaging.

Essential to the certification, according to managing director Bob Veitch, was the Label Traxx print business management software from Tailored Solutions, installed in 2007.

“Obtaining the PS9000 certification necessitated completely overhauling our management and quality control systems, as well as our physical plant,” he recalls. “Segregation cells were created to control medical and pharmaceutical label production, and procedures were put in place to ensure that all labels and materials are fully accounted for. In addition, artwork and design must be strictly documented through to plate storage and detailed hygiene, cleanliness and maintenance programs are required.”

He says Label Traxx was key to the company’s success throughout the audit. “It provided complete traceability for all materials used on our job tickets with unique roll identification, including dies and tooling. The software also enabled us to create the inspection forms required for compliance quickly, and our ability to document production schedules made certification much easier.

“Since its installation, Label Traxx has enabled us to manage our business much more professionally, from enquiry to delivery.”

The software is strictly tailored to the workflow of self-adhesive label printers and converters, regardless of the markets they serve. Tailored Solutions claims it will help to streamline the user’s operations, eliminate errors and reduce overheads.
