Label is claimed a gravure 'first'

5 February 2003

Printpack's European Division and S&C Labels co-operated to deliver a 'no label look' solution believed to be the very first gravure printed OPP cut and stack label in the UK.

Produced for the Shepley Spring's Ice Valley mineral water brand, it is applied by a conventional wet glue paper labelling machine onto a 500ml PET bottle with a sports cap.

Paul Gibbs, S&C's business development director says: "Until now, the only clear PP labels available for cut and stack application were UV flexo printed. The problem with this print process compared with gravure was the ink weight. As well as offering superior print quality, gravure enables the printer to lay down more ink, which gives the higher degree of opacity and depth of colour essential when printing on clear labels".
