Label film needs no priming

31 May 2005

Lumirror PS10 film – new from Toray Plastics (America) – will, it is claimed, enable label converters to achieve superior silicone adhesion performance with platinum cured emulsion systems and general improvements for all other silicone chemistries. The "technologically advanced" co-extruded PET film will also allow users to streamline processing, and tap new markets, the company promises.

The new FDA compliant co-extruded polyester PS10 label film is said to allow converters to eliminate costly and time consuming corona treatment or chemical priming processes - and produce a high quality label that prevents migration of silicone to other surfaces, and has excellent peel strength and release speed. Applications include labels used to create and elevate brand awareness, adhesive backing for commercial signage, permanent or semi permanent labels attached to expensive parts and components, tapes used to mask optical glass, medical devices and electrical circuits, and release liners for medical tapes and bandages.

Eliminating corona treatment or chemical priming offers converters many advantages: processing time is reduced and production speeds are accelerated; and equipment previously used for silicone coating can be diverted to profitable applications.
