Kraton pushes packaging barriers

24 October 2006

New from Kraton Polymers are functionalized hydrogenated styrenic block copolymers for use as tie layers in high performance barrier packaging applications. This new technology specifically targets stand-up pouches and/or clear retortable packaging, and is claimed to bring new capabilities while providing more efficient processing methods.

The new Kraton G polymer grades are said to provide significant improvement in clarity and puncture resistance of film structures as well as enhanced heat resistance over conventional tie layer materials. The company says this new packaging option offers manufacturers reduced costs and increased savings along the entire value chain by reducing waste and transportation costs, and by increasing the recyclability of scraps.
