Kama die cutter embosses holograms

22 May 2007

German automatic die cutter manufacturer Kama now offers a unit that can stamp holograms. This new finishing option will enable users to add attractive features and premium quality appeal to their products - and help to protect them from being copied or pirated.

“In times of increasing brand piracy, forgery-proof branding is becoming more and more important”, explains Kama’s managing director Marcus Tralau. “This is a growing market in which print shops and finishing and die cutting companies can offer new services and gain market shares through their expertise. Hologram labels are produced exclusively for a particular client and their 3D effects are very hard to copy. Embossed onto print products and packaging, they offer highly visible security and effective brand protection.”

Kama’s module for embossing holograms operates with two separate rolls of foil which are fed “with millimetre precision” due to laser sensors, an additional motor and a specially developed steering system. In contrast to hot foils with repetitive motifs, a hologram has to be positioned over the printing plate in register and perfectly centred when it is embossed. In addition to hologram foils and individualized security foils, the unit can also process any kind of hot foil.

According to Kama, its die cutters offer very short change-over times from one function to another. For example, switching from embossing holograms to die cutting is said to take less than 10min. Even small and mid sized print runs can be processed and finished quickly and cost efficiently, the company promises.

In addition to finishing options such as cold embossing, hot foil stamping or combined embossing, hot foil stamping and hologram stamping, the ProCut 74 and the ProCut 105 machines also die cut, crease, nick, perforate and kiss-cut. A further option is a module for the precise die cutting of plastics with heated die cutters.
