UK label printer John Watson & Co has installed six technotrans ink.lines and agitators on its dedicated UV Speedmaster CD102-6LYLX six colour press with double coaters. This is the company's first move to ink.line, having previously used semi automatic gun inking systems on the company's B2 and B3 presses.
"On a UV press inks tend to fall back from the rollers so you need agitators to keep the ink fresh and at the right viscosity," says Andy Reid, production manager. "We handle four colour as well as specials and having ink.lines is 50-60 per cent more efficient than systems we have used in the past."
Quality is also said to be enhanced by applying ink evenly at the rate required for each job. This is important to John Watson, which is bidding to regain the Scotch whisky label business from overseas competitors.
The company produces wet glue labels and tube wraps, as well as commercial work generating £6M of business a year. It operates 24 hours a day, six days a week.
