KBA-Italia recently organized an open house on hybrid inks, their applications and special effects. Under the banner 'Not just carton technology', the event attracted some 150 printers to KBA customer label printer Grafica Artistica Meridionale, in Roccapiemonte. GAM has been an all-KBA operation for 14 years - the latest acquisition being a five colour Rapida 105 dual coater press with double delivery. This highly automated machine was used for a series of print demonstrations at the open house. Since labels represent 98 per cent of GAM's output, the press first ran two different jobs on 60g stock before switching to sales brochures featuring some "challenging" special effects on 130g stock. It finished by printing various hybrid inks on microflute to illustrate the outstanding image quality that can be achieved.
