Innovations from Italy

12 November 2003

New from Italian manufacturer Gidue is the HHS foil embossing and hologram application system for use on all makes of printing and converting machines, both rotary and intermittent.

Claimed to offer high productivity and operational safety, ease of installation and low maintenance, this fully servo driven unit can operate at speeds up to 100m/min. A job memory program eliminates the need for manual adjustment.

Multiple lines of holograms and foils can be positioned on the application head, with each having a variable graphic configuration, and a foil saving mechanism is claimed to reducing waste significantly. Systems are available in widths of 40, 60, 100, and 150mm.

In another development, the Unipro, a 730mm wide in-line, mid web packaging press will be officially launched at drupa 2004. It will be demonstrated in Düsseldorf as a full packaging press using print cylinder sleeve technology.

The press can print and convert most substrates from film to paper, foil and laminates, and cartonboard up to 450g/m2 without changing configuration. It has an enhanced version of Gidue's Flower flexo printing head with two new facilities.

The Uni-Lock "non reversible printing" system clamps the print cylinder within the press frames - totally absorbing any press vibrations, according to the company. Both solid cylinders and sleeves can be used with this system. The second innovation is the Spider automatic, integrated print unit wash-up system.
