Innovation accolade

28 June 2004

UK based Sericol has received a Queen's Award for Enterprise for developing a range of inks for inkjet printers, which cure when exposed to UV light. Conventional inks for inkjet printers set when the solvent, which carries the pigment particles, evaporates. However, solvent based inks are not suitable for printing on the materials used for wide format graphic displays. Working with inkjet printhead manufacturers, Sericol solved the problem by developing a range of UV curing inks which are suitable for use with inkjet printers to produce graphics in wide formats. This innovation has effectively created a new market for Sericol and is a major commercial success for the company.
