Inline silicone-coating line installed in Germany

20 October 2008

Switzerland based Polytype Converting has put into operation ‘one of the world fastest inline siliconizing and adhesive coating lines’ at Germany based adhesive label manufacturer - Herma.

The most important design parameters include production speed 1100 m/min; web width 2100 mm; 5-roll silicon coating head with a coating precision of ± 1 per cent in relation to the wet coat weight; adhesive curtain coating station with multi-layer technology for variable coat weights; high performance drying system based on a Polytype support roll dryer with integrated air handling system; and appropriate cooling units and web guide components.

The control and drive system is equipped with the latest Siemens drive and control components. All machine parameters are automatically set for each product by the control system based on the recipe data storage system.

The integrated logistics for the roll handling had to be planned and geared for short roll run time. Roll supply and removal is fully automatic via an integrated roll storage warehouse with appropriate buffer zones and preparation areas for instance for the splice preparation.
