Ink-water balance controls boost Chesapeake Nottingham

UK-based pharmaceutical packaging specialist Chesapeake Nottingham chose Technotrans press ancillaries for its new Komori LSX40 6-colour press: a Beta.c combined inking and dampening temperature control unit; Beta.f chemistry filtration device; and Ink.mate ink agitator.

Keeping ink and dampening units at the correct temperature - 25°C normally for inking and about 10°C for dampening units - is critical for optimum quality and high productivity. Although the site had standalone filtration systems previously, this is its first integrated system from Technotrans, and was an attractive option because of the extended filter longevity and the reduction in maintenance and downtime. The Ink.mate keeps the UV ink flow to the roller chain consistent, allowing certain press functions to perform at optimum efficiency.

Richard Mumby, print manager at the Nottingham plant, reveals: “The press has low makeready and a high run speed requirement, but its quality will only ever be as good as the products supplied to it, so controlling the water, chemistry and ink has a huge impact on the stability of the printing process. Ancillaries also help us to manage a reduced alcohol policy, thereby reducing VOC usage and cost while saving on waste water and fount chemistry costs.”
