Indigo ink performance primed

1 November 2004

DigiPrime is a new digital printing primer from Michelman that is said to enhance the quality of ink transfer for HP/Indigo digital presses. It works by improving the adhesion properties of Indigo liquid inks to the substrate, resulting in improved rub resistance, edge sharpness and definition, the company states.

DigiPrime is also claimed to be extremely cost effective and easy to use. It can be applied using traditional coating equipment, including flexo, gravure, rod, or roll coating systems. It is typically applied with a flexo press. Available globally, it comes in press-ready versions for uncoated and clay coated paper grades, as well as PE and some polyester films.

According to Michelman, the new primer is specially formulated to keep well over time; it does not turn yellow or have a limited shelf life. Being a water based, it is inherently operator and environmentally friendly, and not carcinogenic.
