Indet takes digital step

11 October 2005

Italian label printer Indet has purchased the country's second Xeikon 330 LabelSprint digital press from Punch Graphix Italia. Customer demand prompted the Gallarate based company's owners, Adriano Gozzi and Francesco Mason, to move into digital production.

"Customers are now asking us for shorter run label products and digital is the only right response to that," says Adriano Gozzi. "We also see opportunities to enter markets demanding variable data." Adds Francesco Mason: "The integration of an extensive finishing unit with the digital press means that we can complete a job in one pass and with great flexibility. This system will be an important addition to our production facilities."

Indet has ordered a five colour press which, along with the four standard process colours, can include a base white ink to create that 'no-label-look'. The fifth unit can also be used to print customer specific spot colours. The LabelSprint includes the in-line D-Coat finishing line, which can also be used in off-line mode if required. The finishing unit consists of an rewinder, unwinder (for off-line work), semi rotary hotfoil, flood and spot varnish, high gloss finish, two semi rotary die cut stations, slitting and dual rewind.

The web-fed press can print labelstock, paper and synthetic media in widths up to 330mm and weights to 250g/m2. The variable data capability of the X-800 digital front-end means that labels can incorporate regular changes in image.

"The X-800 is highly impressive," says Adriano Gozzi. "With integrated sequential numbering and bar code generator after RIPping, extensive imposition capabilities, PDF job report, and many other features, it outclasses all the competitive products."

The Xeikon press prints at an equivalent of 2,400 dpi resolution, providing effective screen rulings of up to 170 lpi – "it can deliver sharper images and smoother shades than can be achieved via either screen or flexo label printing", claims Xeikon.
