Improving in-house logistics

13 July 2010

Südwestkarton, a subsidiary of Panther Packaging, in Illingen, Germany, is restructuring its in-house logistics system during the course of 2010 to improve material flows and productivity. The total investment is approximately €4 million.

Processing machinery will be positioned in a continuous line above a newly constructed waste channel so that production waste runs automatically directly into the waste press. In-house transportation of corrugated-board stacks is being converted to an aluminium sleeve system to avoid the use of wooden pallets.

The finished corrugated-board products will be conveyed fully automatically from the various processing machines to the palletising area and warehouse.

This work, due to be completed by November, 2010, will increase Südwestkarton’s annual capacity to some 140 million m2.
