Higher print quality on labels

2 May 2006

Two self adhesive material innovations from Herma - a new paper quality and a silicone release liner - are claimed to optimize handling for higher efficiency both in the manufacture and use of labels.

The new Hermaextracoat 242 machine coated paper is said to offer a very smooth surface that will ensure “brilliant printing results” by both conventional methods and thermo transfer. Therefore, it is perfectly suitable for multi colour printing of challenging labels, says Herma.

In addition to the visual advantages, the new paper will improve the productivity and performance of printing and die cutting machines, the company adds. This is because its higher resistance “creates the perfect pre-conditions for a particularly clean and smooth matrix removal”. It is also said to offer superior product reliability for special applications such as re-sealable labels.

Improved film adhesive bonds was the goal of the further development of the standard Herma silicone release liner (type 517). It is characterized by a considerably lower thickness and density variation, which is said to reduce perforations and ensure a continuously cleaner, more uniform die cutting pattern.

“As a result, for label producers the risk of matrix break is minimized,” the company promises.
