HP Indigo claims that the combination of speed, size format and streamlined digital workflow of its new WS6000 press offers “distinct advantages” over conventional analogue printing of labels, shrink sleeves and other packaging materials.
“HP is unlocking lean manufacturing benefits for consumer packaged goods makers in addition to offering a competitive cost per label,” boasts Alon Bar-Shany, vice-president and general manager, Indigo division. “The new model offers a combination of quality, fast turnaround and flexibility that will enable our customers to pursue new revenue opportunities.”
The WS6000 prints at 30 m/min in 4-colour mode, and is compatible with substrates ranging from thinner flexible packaging, label and shrink sleeves, to folding cartonboard. HP claims it is designed to be more cost effective than the traditional flexo printing process used in label and packaging production for jobs up to 4,000 linear metres - a figure that represents about 80 per cent of label jobs.
Designed for high volume production “approaching the level of printing done on flexo presses”, the WS6000’s larger 980 mm repeat length permits greater productivity and lower costs per label.
The Stratus Packaging Group is one of the first companies to install the new press - at its digital production centre in Martin de Limoges, France, where it is being used to offer advanced services such as versioning and fast-turnaround production.
“The volume of digital print runs has been increasing constantly for three years,” says Stratus president Isidore Leiser. “The new production capacities of the HP Indigo WS6000, combined with the traditional high quality of the HP Indigo presses we already have, allow us to meet our customers’ needs even better.”
