Cheshire Anilox Technology has developed a new engraving process - Proflo - specifically for ultrafine flexo screen specifications. It features a new, improved cell profile that is claimed to provide a more consistent ink laydown while also eliminating the chance of uncontrolled dot gain.
The company says this “high-release cell“ offers as much as 25% additional ink compared with conventional engravings, enabling an anilox manufacturer to produce finer anilox rolls and eliminating dot dipping.
According to Cheshire Anilox, Proflo’s special cell profile now allows printers to work with the expanded tone range of offset and rotogravure printing techniques.
The company’s new robotically operated TriplexPro 200 plasma spray coating plant can spray and handle anilox rollers up to 5m long and 6,000kg in weight.
The ceramic coating is a critical part of the anilox roller, as it affects the consistency of the engraving and, most importantly, its longevity. Cheshire Anilox says its new technology controls the critical parameters in the plasma process to achieve a consistent, extremely dense and wear-resistant ceramic. The deposition of coating and porosity is greatly improved, resulting in a much harder surface of around 1,600HV.
