High performance cooling system

2 October 2012

Reifenhäuser Kiefel Extrusion claims that a new, high performance cooling system for its Evolution blown film range will enable film manufacturers to increase output capacity significantly.

The new Evolution Ultra Cool design evenly cools from within and without, employing the same concept as the company’s ECP (Enhanced Cooling Package), which has been used for years in the production of heavy duty sacks. Ultra Cool has a height-adjustable cooling ring and an air-cooled inner cooling system that optimise the air conduction inside the bubble, keeping it stable even at high throughput.

The new system's high cooling capacity permits a die factor well above two, making it possible for manufacturers to produce much more efficiently, according to Reifenhäuser Kiefel. The high bubble stability makes extremely low thickness and width tolerances possible even at high throughputs. In addition, short startup times and job changeover times ensure that high capacity production is efficient.

In addition to improved performance, user-friendliness is also promised. Optimised cooling elements and the height-adjustable cooling ring ensure that the line can be started up and operated during production as operators are accustomed to – “the system is just as easy to operate as a conventional cooling system”.

Evolution Ultra Cool can be used for applications including general packaging film, collation shrink film, stretch hoods, hygienic packaging film, and stand-up pouches. The system is already in operation with users in many parts of the world.
