High capacity unwinding and winding

14 May 2010

Engelhardt-Etikett, one of Europe’s largest converters of wet glue labels, has reached full capacity on its Drent Goebel VSOP mid-web press, installed in 2006, when the company diversified into the production of wraparound labels.

The labels are produced on 38 micron OPP on the 850mm web width VSOP line at Engelhardt’s site in Nördlingen, Germany. The 8-colour press with inline flexo varnishing is capable of 260m/min, and to cope with this high production capability and the weight of the 1.25m diameter rolls, the company specified Martin Automatic unwind and rewind technology.

The two Martin units are an ECPF unwind and high speed splicer, and an RMAP rewinder. Chosen to cope with the 850mm web width, they have ample spare capacity to cope with non-stop running.

Technical Manager Josef Stelzle enthuses: “They have never broken down in the entire time we have had them. We take their reliability for granted.”
