Heraeus and Fusion in UV union

9 January 2013

Germany’s Heraeus Noblelight group is to acquire the US-based Fusion UV business from its UK owner Spectris. The acquisition is subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Heraeus Noblelight, with headquarters in Hanau, Germany, and subsidiaries in the US, the UK, France, China, and Australia, is a leading producer of speciality light sources and systems. The globally active Fusion group, headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, is a specialist in microwave-based UV curing applications.

“We believe the activities of the two companies complement each other superbly," says Rainer Küchler, managing director of Heraeus Noblelight. “The new combined technology portfolio covers distinct methods for producing UV light, enabling us to now offer new areas of application.”

While Heraeus Noblelight has focused on the printing industry and on the UV disinfection of packaging materials, drinking water, and industrial water, Fusion UV has applied UV technology in the production of optical fibres and screens for smartphones and other applications. The companies have also focused on different regions, so their combination now yields broad market coverage with direct access to all key industrial markets in the US, Europe and Asia.
