Heidelberg diecutter installed at Pinewood Media Group

Pinewood Media Group (PMG), a supplier of packaging to the arts and entertainment industry, has invested in a Heidelberg’s Varimatrix 105 diecutter with the aim to reduce its outsourcing costs.

“We produce a range of products which require diecutting – photo boxes, picture frames, CDs and DVDs,” says Paul Wilson, operations director. “Currently we are putting about £85,000 of this work out to the trade each month. It makes sense to invest in our own system.”

The diecutter, which is worth almost quarter of a million pounds, will be delivered this month.

PMG currently runs two Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102s. “The feeder and delivery are very similar to a printing press which we’re used to and it’s a very easy machine to run,” said says Paul Wilson.

The Varimatrix can handle sheets of 370 x 400m to 750 x 1,050mm and stocks of 80g/m2 to 1,400 gsm as well as cartonboard up to 4mm thick at a speed of 7,500 sheets/hour.

PMG says it will recruit and retrain staff to run the Varimatrix over a three shift system in order to a 24 hour service.

PMG also plans to sell diecutting as a service alongside its existing portfolio of services that includes branding, creative work, packaging, print management and printing.
