Heidelberg and Fujifilm join forces in inkjet printing

11 November 2013

Heidelberg has unveiled a new collaboration with Fujifilm in the area of inkjet printing, targeting growth potential in commercial and packaging markets.

Heidelberg will gain access to the market-leading inkjet technology of Fujifilm Global Graphic Systems Co., and Fujifilm will in turn be able to leverage Heidelberg’s strengths in engineering and manufacturing.

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen is a major equipment and technology provider and partner for the global printing industry, while Fujifilm is the leading manufacturer of computer-to-plate (CTP) printing technology.

According to Heidelberg, the alliance has a “special focus” on bringing next generation products to the attractive digital printing market and gives both companies access to advanced technologies developed by both companies in the prepress area.

“Fujifilm’s prepress capabilities and their technologies in the area can enhance and grow existing business,” says Gerold Linzbach, Heidelberg CEO.

“With Fujifilm’s inkjet technology we can build on the experience in digital printing gained through other partnerships and quickly move into the peak performance segment.”

It is the company’s goal to become a “global player” in the growing digital printing applications market, Linzbach adds.

“Together with Fujifilm we can meet customer needs more efficiently and more quickly,” he says.

“Within three years we envision a sales potential for Heidelberg in the digital business of more than €200 million.”
