Green plate making

15 August 2008

Fujifilm has developed an online plate processing resources calculator to help all printers assess the impact their plate making has on the environment.

The calculator - at www.howgreenareyourplates.com - enables printers to compare differing plate processing systems – processed, ZAC processed, chemistry-free and process-less - to see how they compare in terms of environmental performance. The site features a clear guide to each process, identifying the major differences between each technology.

A printer using the calculator simply enters the number and size of the plates used per month, the amount of replenisher and developer consumed, the size of the processor, and finally how many hours it is in use and on standby. The calculator then generates clear bar graphs showing how much water, chemistry and energy is consumed and how much waste is produced for each different plate processing solution. To find out how environmental performance can be improved, a printer can experiment with different configurations.
