Green ink technology for sheet-fed

14 May 2008

Addressing the need for ink technology that better meets ‘green’ printing requirements, Kohl & Madden has launched Earth series sheet-fed inks, a low VOC process set of inks which are said to have high levels of renewable raw materials including linseed, soybean and other types of vegetable oils.

It is claimed that the new series of inks produce only 2 per cent VOCs, which is 80 per cent lower than average VOCs produced by other standard sheet-fed process inks. The vegetable oil content in the Earth series ranges from 38-51 per cent.

In addition, Rycoline, Sun Chemical's pressroom supplies division, has developed a series of chemically matched low and zero VOC fountain solutions and washes. These new Rycoline products, Evergreen, and Peak 50 and 75, are also said to help printers reduce VOCs.

“Our customers have been looking for green solutions that help the environment without sacrificing quality or performance,” says Kevin Yeazell, vice president and general manager, Kohl & Madden. “Using low VOC inks, fountain solutions and washes is one step that printers can take to help the environment. The Earth series inks and Rycoline low VOC founts and washes provide a system solution that combines the very best green environmental properties with high pressroom performance without adversely impacting applied economics.”
