Greeks go for BAR's Elite

24 August 2005

UK based BAR Graphic Machinery says its Elite range of slitter rewinding and die cut units are proving popular with Greek label converters.

Since the company formed a partnership with Thessalonica based converting machinery distributor MAX's Coding Marking & Labelling, over a dozen Elite units have been sold. The Greek company's managing director, Costas Zachariades, explains : "The typical Greek label converter faces familiar challenges today. Intense competition and pressure on profit margins mean that players in the market must keep productivity levels as high as possible, and offer a very flexible service without compromising on quality. BAR Graphics understand their needs very well, and that is reflected in their reliable, competitively priced machines. They are easy to operate and run without any chance of breakdown during production. For a small business especially, that is a very powerful combination of benefits."

He adds: "Before they had the Elite, our customers would do all the finishing on the main printing press. They would constantly be stopping and restarting production just to get say, 1,000 labels onto 1 or 1.5in cores. Now, with the Elite machines, downtime is reduced drastically since fast change-overs and running speeds are possible. And the printing can run almost seamlessly. Overall, the new workflow brings a great boost to productivity."

The Elite TT280 Table Top range is designed to handle all types of self adhesive label materials and films down to 20 micron, at speeds of up to 180m/min. The Elite TT250D Die Cut Table Top slitters achieve speeds of up to 160m/min.

Electronically controlled, pneumatically inflated rewind mandrels enable each core to be individually gripped. Even if the cores are out of specification, rolls can be wound to exactly the same tension, it is claimed. Bar Graphic's electronic controlled torque rewind system is claimed to rewind labels without any coning effect. A fixed splice table, with a pneumatic single web clamp, holds the web firmly in position for neat cutting and splicing without cross directional movement.

Mandrel sizes range from 13mm OD (supported) and 25mm OD (unsupported), to 76mm - which is easily reduced to 70mm, by removing the outer core's bolts. The system is said to compatible with most dies in current use.

A cartridge rotary slitting system allows blades to be set up away from the machine if desired, and the unit can retract back into the machine effortlessly, without needing alignment. Its razor system is said to offer excellent cutting of both plastics and paper substrates.

Also fitted as standard to all Elite machines is a Label in – Label out facility, which by the simple turn of a switch, enables the rewind mandrel to change direction.

Bar Graphic will exhibit at Labelexpo 2005, Brussels, on stand 12W30, and ICE 2005, in Munich, on stand 1–V03.
