Getting into gravure

12 January 2005

Omet now offers a rotogravure printing unit that can be easily inserted in-line on its Varyflex press. This new unit uses solvent based metallic inks or laminating adhesive to obtain high coating weights not possible with flexo. "Brilliant metallic-effect labels, for example with golds and silvers, can be produced with the advantage of dramatically lower costs compared to hotfoil and with much higher speeds," the company states.

The new unit can be inserted at any required position on the Varyflex, so the printing sequence can be 'tailored' to each job. According to Omet, the simple design of the connection systems allows only one maintenance engineer to perform the complete change-over operation.
