French flexo 'first' for Mark Andy

3 August 2004

Label converter Bern-etic has installed the first of the new Mark Andy LP3000 flexo lines in France at its plant in Brittany. The family owned company specializes in the 280-300mm label market.

"We chose the Mark Andy LP3000 because we saw it as a step forward in our bid to offer high quality labels to increasingly discerning markets," explains director Frederick Carré. "Its ability to hold register at 200m/min across the range of substrates we use makes it a very cost effective tool."

Bern-etic mainly serves the food markets in France, focussing on short run, multicolour jobs where additional techniques like delam/relam and printing on the reverse side can be valuable sales aids. The new LP3000 is an eight colour press fitted with a full Hönle UV system. This has allowed Bern-etic to offer a far higher quality of label to customers whose work was previously printed using water based inks. In addition to food, the company also supplies labels to the industrial and cosmetic markets, both of which demand high quality.

The new press is also compatibile with the company's existing Mark Andy 2200 machine, while another consideration was its small footprint. Outside of its existing business, Bern-etic is researching coldfoil as an added value item, and techniques for the lottery ticket market. The company says it is is well advanced in the printing of random numbering on the reverse side of the web. Jobs that require metallic inks and varnish are also high on the list of priorities.
