Foil tape controls flying splices

2 December 2002

A new tape with integrated aluminium foil is claimed to eradicate incorrect positioning of silver foil and deliver efficient and reliable flying splices at the reelstand.

Advantages claimed for tesa 51106 EasySplice PrintLine include: accurate and consistent positioning; elimination of detection labels; reduction in 'drop' copies; and consistent tension across the web.

Manufactured in a special blue colour, the new tape has a tensile strength of 85N/25mm and, according to tesa, it will adhere securely to the paper roll, ensuring 100 per cent contact between the expiring web and the new roll.

As there is contact over the full width of the roll, flying splice speeds exceeding 1,000m/min are said to be technically feasible.
