Foil sales recover

6 May 2010

Figures released by the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) show that foil deliveries in the first quarter of 2010 reached the level before the economic recession - up 17% on last year and a total amount just 1.5% below 2008. Total deliveries reached 213,000 tonnes (182,200 tonnes in 2009.

Demand for thinner alufoil gauges mainly used for flexible packaging and household foil was up by almost 20% and even 7% above the 2008 level. Thicker gauges also showed a significant 16% increase in the first three months compared to last year.

EAFA President François Coëffic comments: "The foil packaging sector seems to have passed the severe recession but uncertainties remain about the economic stability. At least the mid-term perspective looks very promising for the European alufoil industry and expectations are to reach the second best-ever year 2008."
