Flint “first” with UV LED coatings

Said to be the first commercially available UV LED coatings available on the market, Flint Group's new EkoCure coatings use specially selected raw materials that match the narrow and targeted wavelength area typical for UV LED lamp output.

Flint says EkoCure technology and the UV LED process are "a true game-changing innovation that will lead our industry into the future". The main advantages with UV LED are summarised as economical and ecological.

The economical benefits are: quality assuredness brings increased productivity and press uptime; energy costs will be significantly reduced; expanded capability to run heat sensitive materials with less heat management costs. The Ecological benefits are: energy will be saved and LED lamps are ozone and mercury free. Printers can realized improved worker and environmental safety.
UV LED lamps are said to be nearly maintenance free, with no mercury bulb replacement and disposal costs

Flint Group's range of EkoCure UV flexo coatings includes the following: gloss; matte; product resistant; low COF shrink coating; cast and cure; rotary screen tactile; primer for non-top coated films; primer for various shrink films; non-yellowing; and coatings with or without optical brighteners.

The company also says it can develop a coating to meet the specific requirements of almost any narrow web printer using the EkoCure UV LED technology.
