Flexibles market forces cutback by Parkside

25 July 2003

UK flexible packaging supplier Parkside International is to close its plant in Stoke on Trent. The site employs 140 people manufacturing pouches, bags, laminates and sleeves. All business and equipment will be moved to Parkside Flexibles, at Normanton, and Parkside Performance Films, Darton, providing 70 job opportunities to Stoke employees who wish to relocate.

Chief executive Geoffrey Stewart comments: "The current state of the European flexible packaging market is extremely competitive, with many businesses being affected by the subsequent pressures. Unfortunately, Parkside are no exception to this trend and following an extensive operational review of our current manufacturing facilities, we came to the regretful decision to begin the closure process of our Stoke manufacturing site."
