UK group Skymark Packaging has invested in a new Fischer & Krecke Flexpress 6S CI flexo press for its Scunthorpe site. It is the group’s third Flexpress – two 16S models are running in its Leominster plant. All the machines were supplied by Edlon Machinery, Fischer & Krecke’s UK and Ireland agent.
Paul Neath, Skymark’s production director, affirms: “Having had excellent results from our two 16S machines, and exceptional reliability, we had utmost confidence in F&K when ordering one of the first 6S presses.”
Although it is based on the 16S format, the 6S press includes several new features to simplify certain operations. The machine has a maximum web width of 1,300mm, a top printing speed of 400m/min, and a print repeat range of 320-800mm. An Autoclean automatic wash-up system is included, together with a web video and inspection system.
The printing units are ‘gearless’ with a direct drive to the CI drum said to give the benefits of “no ‘bull gear’, no wear, and no backlash”.
As with the model 16S, the design embodies a retractable sleeve/intermediate mandrel system for both printing plates (no plate cylinders) and anilox, supported on base mandrels fixed in the CI group for maximum precision.
