GBC Films Group Europe has launched "the first thermal silver metallized polyester film to be available in Europe". It claims the new 7100 metallized PET film will enhance any packaging application with a luxurious finish, and expand a designer's opportunities with its suitability for further finishing using embossing, foil stamping, spot and UV varnish.
The finish offered by the 7100 PET film is said to deliver exceptional added value and offer the "perfect choice for luxury packaging and branding". Excellent binding and adhesion properties are also claimed for the 30 micron film and, due to the thermal process, it is is said to present consistent quality output resulting in less waste and higher profits. It comes in widths up to 710m at a length of 2,000m and runs at temperatures up to 110degC.
Giel Klinkers, GBC's European marketing manager, enthuses: "Designers and brand owners will love the opportunity to achieve unusual special effects with this thermal laminating film. The technical aspects offer a complete added value finishing solution in this growing competitive market."
He adds: "Many companies still assume that traditional lamination is more cost effective, but considering the lower investment costs, higher speed, reduced waste, and less labour cost by virtue of more production in a shorter period of time, in most cases the total cost of thermal lamination is lower". "A very important factor in all this is the considerably higher productivity of the thermal process."
The company offers a wide range of films for laminating offset prints, such as luxury packaging, and its industrial laminating equipment operates at speeds from 20-100m/min.
