First Solid state UV light system to cure wide areas

21 September 2005

Phoseon Technology has delivered a wide area solid state UV light system based on its SLM (Semiconductor Light Matrix) technology to a key customer in Europe. To be used for ink curing, the system consists of three 500mm wide light "bars" powered by a compact power supply.

It is the first of Phoseon's planned family of wide area SLM UV light systems suitable for moving web applications. SLM technology is claimed to give these many advantages over traditional lamp technologies. They include pure UV output with low heat generation; significant reductions in power usage; significantly longer useful lifetimes; and a solution that is much more environmentally attractive and cost effective.

"This shipment marks a key inflection point in the development of solid state UV-LED based light sources in general and Phoseon's SLM process in particular," says Tom Molamphy, director sales and marketing. "The technology has now progressed beyond spot curing and small area curing applications to wide area web based applications that have traditionally been served by arc lamp technology. We expect Europe to be a key growth market for the next several years."

Phoseon is to announce specific details of the new wide area systems at Radtech Europe 2005, in Barcelona, October 18-20, 2005.
