First CORjet in the UK

8 July 2004

POS and POP designer and manufacturer simpsongroup has installed a Scitex Vision CORjet digital inkjet press – the first of its type in the UK. The CORjet is claimed to be the world's first industrial digital inkjet press for corrugated applications, offering quality, speed, fully automated digital workflow and cost effectiveness.

Mark Simpson, managing director of simpsongroup, says it will greatly enhance the company's capacity for top of the range digital print work. "It is three times more productive than any other printer of its type and represents the very latest in digital technology."

The CORjet is a complete system comprising its own RIP software unit and system controller, automatic loader and unloader, print engine and drying unit. Using the same standard format artwork files as used for digital flexo or litho production, it prints with four or six colour configurations using water based inks developed and produced by Scitex Vision and FDA approved for use in food packaging.

It can print sheet sizes up to 160x320cm at up to 150m2/hour delivering up to 29 full format sheets/hour in high quality 600dpi 'two-pass mode'.

"It is ideal for producing in-store POP in volumes up to 300-400 units," Mark Simpson adds. "The fact that it runs with water based inks and is environmentally friendly makes it perfect for producing material for the food industry, as it complies with stringent industry regulations."

In addition to the CORjet, the company has also invested in the wide format Scitex Vision XLjet 3+, a continuous roll-to-roll system which can print on materials 3.2m wide by an unlimited length, making it ideal for building-drop banners, vehicle graphics and other large format outdoor work.
