Films with that 'groovy, baby' look

27 September 2002

New special effect films from the Engelhard Corp combine the fluorescent effect popular in the '60s and '70s with eye catching iridescence to create striking packaging and decorative products. The Aurora Fluoridescent films are available in five 'retro' colours.

The untinted films express colour through light interference — not with pigments or dyes. A novel extrusion process produces more than 100 microlayers of different polymers, creating a multicolour effect in a 17 micron film. When white light strikes the film, it is partially reflected from each layer, appearing to express different colours as a person's viewing angle changes.
