More than 90 companies from 17 countries attended the FEFCO showcase of innovation, operational excellence and technology in corrugated board manufacturing.
The three-day seminar in Nice was organised by the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers and attracted more than 800 visitors. The exhibition featured mostly machinery and accessories suppliers, but there was also an increased presence of software companies.
FEFCO vice-president John Williams, of SCA, said: “This is a technical seminar, but not only about nuts and bolts and technology. It is a seminar about a changing world, and how to find opportunity in crisis and turn it to the industry's advantage.”
The programme aimed to provide a toolbox for production managers and featured several hands on-sessions about energy management, corrugating processes, and printing and die cutting techniques. There were also sessions on the practical implications of recent developments in EU legislation.
FEFCO awards were presented to suppliers for technical innovation. The Gold Award winner was Evolution HBL for the new-generation Quick Set Rotary Die Cutter; the Silver Award went to Bobst for the 5,000m2 per open hour on a flat bed die cutter with the Mastercut 1.7 and 2.1; and the Bronze Award went to Mosca-Getra for its Ultrasonic pallet strapping technology for corrugated board.
