Fast start for UV curing

18 August 2005

GraphiCure GC9, a new UV curing system from Baldwin brings Kühnast's Quickstart technology, previously only available for smaller format presses, to the 40in format market.

Thomas Gårlin, sales and marketing manager at Baldwin IVT, in Sweden, says: "The instant start technology enables the UV lamps to become fully operational in seconds, without the need for a warm-up period typical of traditional UV systems. The main benefits to the printer are improved productivity through increased press printing time, energy savings since power is only used when the press is in production, and the possibility to achieve up to 30 per cent more production hours per lamp."

The technology does not require a 'standby' mode, so heat build-up in the press is kept to a minimum. A reduction in moving parts also offers safety advantages and maintenance benefits. For example, the system does not require shutters – an area which can cause maintenance difficulties with existing UV systems.

GraphiCure GC9 is compatible with Baldwin's GraphiSet GS4 energy efficient IR/hot air dryer for conventional inks and coatings. When both systems are installed in the same press, the company states, printers can switch between conventional and UV production efficiently.
