EXCELSIOR RE-OPENING OF NELSON SITE

Excelsior Technologies Limited has two sites manufacturing flexible packaging - Deeside and Nelson.
At Nelson the company extrudes cast polypropylene film and makes pouches for fresh produce, ingredients and sauces. At Deeside Excelsior prints, laminates and slits films to make form and fill packaging for household name food companies.

Since Excelsior was acquired by the Enact Fund of Endless LLP in December 2014 the new Operations Director Paul Thomas has been leading a major improvement programme at the Nelson site.

This has involved a full review of all manufacturing processes and procedures, close attention to housekeeping, and high emphasis on product quality. The workflow has been improved and secondary processes moved to Deeside to allow focus on extrusion and pouch making.

The Nelson Site manager, Paul Jones, has led the effort in the factory, and he has enjoyed the full support of the workforce which has worked hard to raise standards in all areas.

The Enact fund has responded by providing further investment in the business, the initial tranche has been spent on refurbishing and upgrading the two cast extrusion lines.

To celebrate this success the Nelson site held a re-opening on Thursday 7th April. The Enact Fund Chairman Wayne Bowser planted a tree to mark the event and unveiled a memorial stone. The event was also attended by the Member of Parliament for Pendle Andrew Stephenson.

Wayne Bowser commented:
'The Enact Fund and Endless LLP understand the importance of manufacturing, its role in job creation, and the importance of this business to the area. The transformation at the Excelsior Nelson site is impressive and allows the business to compete worldwide with its products. More than 50% of output is exported to the United States and continental Europe.'
