Evolving into more business

8 February 2011

UK printer Evolve is looking to add more retail and point of sale packaging to its portfolio with a £1.2 million investment in a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75-5+L, a five-unit offset press with dedicated coater.

“We need to retain more of this work in the UK and not let it migrate to printers in China,” says Evolve Managing Director Richard Gregory. “The weak pound and strong Yuan helps, but having technology that can provide the colour quality at speed and cost-effectively is also important.”

The Rickmansworth-based company offers a range of services including in-line diecutting and with the new press it hopes to attract more customers to gloss and special coatings, to give brands an additional lift. It also plans to recruit three more staff.

The Speedmaster’s enlarged cylinder enables it to handle thick stocks and gives ‘fantastic’ rolling power, making it easy for Evolve to continue to work to ISO 12647 colour standards with closed loop colour between prepress and press.
