Esko acquires print software company

28 May 2007

Packaging graphics specialist Esko has launched new a new suite of visualisation software after its acquisition earlier this month of Stonecube, the UK developer of dynamic print visualisation software.

Stonecube, founded five years ago in Bristol, has developed interactive 3D software applications for photorealistic and interactive visualisation of special inks and finishes in print applications.

PrintDevizor allows users to view and experiment with variations of print and finishing options interactively in 3D and in true lighting conditions. The Pro version has extra features for packaging, labels, greetings cards, publishing and print finishing, such as die cutting and embossing and to fold up 2D designs or roll them into a cylindrical shape.

“Packaging is obviously a very important application for dynamic print visualization,” says Stonecube founder Martin Coulthard and now director of Esko's Visualisation Software Product Group.

The new Esko Visualizer software builds on the capabilities of PrintDevizor and existing Esko Software Suite 7 components to simplify the workflow for complex and folded packaging and display materials, Esko says.

Esko did not disclose the value of the acquisition.
