Erema targets low-emission plastics recycling

2 December 2009

New technology to cut energy costs for operators of plastics recycling systems is being added as standard to new Erema machines.

The ‘pioneering’ manufacturer is equipping all its recycling systems with Ecosave - a package of measures which includes the use of high quality, energy saving components, such as high-performance motors, says the company.

‘Lots of successful test runs under field conditions’ confirm that up to 10% energy savings are ‘absolutely realistic’, a company spokesperson told Converting Today.

First machines that come with Ecosave as standard will be delivered from the beginning of 2010 at no additional cost.

Potential CO2 savings of around 370,000kWh and 230 tonnes within seven years is estimated, based on an Erema system with a production capacity of about 1,500 tonnes/year working in three shifts (42,000 operating hours).

Erema claims its technology is a global standard in the recycling of polyolefines and polyester (PET).
