29 November 2005

The European Rotogravure Association's recent International Packaging Conference in Kiev focused on the markets for packaging gravure in the Ukraine and Russia.

As ERA secretary general James Siever noted: "The Ukraine and Russia are the largest countries in Europe and markets with significant potential which cannot be neglected by the gravure industry." He referred to the dynamic development of flexible packaging in these markets growing, due to rising demand for consumer goods, by 10 per cent/year. "Gravure has gained ground, since the market is growing, quality demands are becoming higher and print runs are getting longer."

The Russian market for flexible packaging is valued at $720M, of which 50 per cent is gravure printed. In total, gravure printed products in the Russian market are worth over $600M/year.

ERA Packaging Gravure Award 2005 winners included: Flexible Packaging – Paper, Reuther Verpackung; Flexible Packaging – Plastics Film, Ukrplastic; Innovation, Keating Group and MDC Max Daetwyler.
