Energy saving accolade

27 August 2008

At drupa 2008, the BGDP – Germany’s trade association for printing and paper processing - awarded IST Metz’s new BLK-5 UV system a certificate for “energy minimised UV printing”.

The BLK-5 was developed specifically for high speed web printing applications. Instead of the equipment previously required for a machine (three type BLK-2 UV units at 200 W/cm), two of the new BLK-5 type at 180 W/cm are said to be sufficient to achieve the same drying results.

A reduction in energy consumption of at least 30 per cent is required for approval for the BGDP’s test symbol. The IST Metz system is said to actually exceed this requirement, with an increase in efficiency of 40 per cent as well as a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
