EFI to woo digital label printers

20 February 2008

EFI, manufacturer of digital printing systems, is looking to woo label printers to move to digital printing for shorter run jobs saying it offers advantages such as faster turnaround.

The firm says that its Jetrion 4000 full colour label printing system is “already revolutionizing the printing industry for a number of label and narrow web printers”.

Jetrion 4000 supports webs up to 12in wide and uses 4- or 6-colour UV ink sets to produce full colour imaging across a variety of substrates. The system is said to print at speeds up to 100 feet per minute at more than 1000 dpi with grayscale technology and offers variable data printing capabilities to support bar coding, sequential numbering, variable imaging and other VDP applications.

“We have not crossed the chasm in label market but we expect 25 per cent of this US$ 30B market to move to digital printing by 2015,” says Guy Gecht, ceo of EFI.

The company plans to bolster its position in the digital label market with the Jetrion 3025 by enabling new short run, monochrome applications. Dr. Kenneth Stack, EFI vp and general manager, Jetrion, says, “Black Plate Replacement enables label converters to reduce operating expenses by using Jetrion inkjet technology in place of traditional flexo printing plates for printing short-run or fully variable black content such as text, numbering or graphics.”
