With the commercial sheet offset market facing pressure to reduce prices, litho printers are looking to diversify in order to turn loss making orders into profit. Wet glue labels offer an excellent opportunity to automate production by printing in a single operation from reel to the finished label.
“Over the last couple of years, we have received many orders from sheet offset printers around the world because of these reasons”, explains Benhard Grob, export director for Edale. Many sheet offset printers have seen new opportunities to diversify as UV flexo print quality equals offset. With UV flexo the total in-line production of printing and finishing can include hot and cold foiling, lamination and variable information printing.
Another important fact, he says, is that the flexo market is the only traditional printing process still growing. By having a rotary printing and converting press, it is possible to produce a much wider range of applications.
