Dürr closes acquisition in the industrial environmental technology business

19 October 2018

Dürr has completed the previously announced acquisition of the industrial environmental technology business of the US company Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) as of 5 October, 2018. The transaction creates one of the leading global providers of air pollution and noise control technologies offering companies from all industries a broad range of solutions for tightening emissions regulations worldwide. The addition of the regional offices of the two environmental technology specialists, MEGTEC and Universal, significantly increases Dürr's global presence and provides a strong global platform for serving customers.

Clean Technology Systems (CTS), Dürr's environmental technology division, is growing significantly as a result of the acquisition. MEGTEC adds technologies for air pollution control such as Wet and Dry Electrostatic Precipitators, Fabric Filters, and Solvent Recovery Systems along with industrial dryers and coating systems for lithium-ion-battery electrodes. Universal, a leading supplier of acoustic solutions, specialises in sound attenuation systems and air filters and adds noise control as a new dimension to the CTS environmental business. With this acquisition, the company is strengthening and broadening its business in Europe and North America to meet the growing demand for industrial environmental solutions in these regions. In addition, the innovative technologies and diverse product line on environmental equipment also create a huge market potential in the emerging economies of China, India, South East Asia and South America.

Dr Daniel Schmitt, CEO of the Clean Technology Systems division and in charge of the joint environmental technology business of Dürr, MEGTEC and Universal said: “This new combination establishes a much wider and stronger product portfolio and includes the services of 1,500 highly skilled workforce with sales of around €400 million. We are well placed to offer our customers all exhaust-air purification technologies from a single source along with advanced acoustic solutions. Additionally, our synergies are expected to create cost savings in procurement and through product standardisation. We have an unmatched offer – with the best possible solutions for our customers on a global scale!”

Strong Services and Wider Reach

The global offices of the integrated businesses will provide customers with more local service support and enhanced responsiveness. MEGTEC, in particular, has an extensive service network. The “new” CTS will build on this network to continue a tradition of service excellence and provide the finest customer support.

Kenneth Zak, senior vice president, Dürr MEGTEC LLC said: “Responsive service is critical for our customers. We now have broader geographic reach and a deeper resource base of trained field technicians to support our customers in locations around the world. Speed of response and the availability of spare parts – those are the things that help make certain our customer’s equipment is up and running all day, every day. We are moving closer to our customers – delivering the benefits of our combined service capabilities for them. Our vision is always to be “best in class” when it comes to service.”

With the acquisition of MEGTEC and Universal, Dürr adds exciting and cutting-edge complementary technologies to the existing product range and creates not only the broadest offer on environmental solutions but also facilitates innovation. The company plans to combine the best technologies to create superior products and provide optimum solutions for their customers on a global scale.
