Dutch press builder Drent Goebel has received patents on its VSOP Variable Sleeve Offset Printing technology in Europe and North America. The patent - for the technique that allows exchangeable supporting and positioning of print cylinders in the offset press - is already granted for North America, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, France, Great Britain and Italy. Applications are pending in other countries.
"This patent helps us keep the advantages we have over our competitors," says Rob Schellekens, director of sales and marketing. "When we started the development and saw the first results we knew that we had a unique product and had to secure it."
VSOP allows the printing length to be set steplessly from 381-762mm, giving the printer "an extremely flexible printing press", suitable for a wide range of work. Paper, pressure sensitive stock, all films and foils (even shrink film), and heavy board can all be printed on the same machine, it is claimed.
Drent Goebel says it is now developing gapless printing, and the first tests "look very promising".
