Drent develop staggered offset

11 April 2006

Compared to flexo and gravure technologies Drent Goebel claims its Variable Sleeve Offset Printing (VSOP) press offers considerable advantages in quality, profitability, reactivity and costs for converters of high end packaging. However, the ‘offset-gap’ on the plate causes problems with, for example, round or non-straight shapes, where the complete printable surface of the plate cannot be used. Now the company has developed a staggered edge technology to produce and mount plates to allow true gapless printing.

Instead of a straight edge to the sleeve the stepped profile fits with the mirror image edge on the opposite side of the plate as it is mounted. The label designs can thus be staggered and the substrate waste thus reduced.

Drent believes the development will make the VSOP more attractive to those who want to make the change to offset or a hybrid press for printing round labels, self adhesive or IML and round aluminum lids for drink cups, for example.
