Dotrix digital press debuts in UK

5 April 2004

Gardners, speciality printer, producer of point of sales materials, signs, labels and outdoor media, is the first UK company to install dotrix's the.factory high speed colour inkjet press. Primarily a screen printer, the company will use the new digital press to produce many single items on a wide range of substrates.

Says managing director Richard Gardner: "the.factory is the most advanced digital inkjet press available in the market and the only industrial solution capable of providing high quality results in at least four colours featuring a wide colour gamut enabling very accurate spot colour reproduction.

"It is extremely flexible and able to print on foils, plastics and coated papers. Its ability to print on such a wide range of materials gives us the opportunity to expand and diversify our portfolio".

He says the company also plans to install a second the.factory later this year.

The.factory incorporates the Single Pass Inkjet Colour Engine (SPICE), which uses piezo-ceramic drop-on-demand, greyscale, inkjet technology with inkjet heads from Toshiba TEC. These heads can produce different tints of ink by varying the droplet sizes, providing a 300dpi resolution with three-bit greyscale or eight levels of grey per spot.

Combined with stochastic screening, these different intensities are said to result in a high level of print quality at a perceived resolution of 900dpi. the.factory is claimed to be capable of printing 907m2/hour at widths of up to 63cm.
